Freehand drilling is part of everyday life for metalworkers. For particularly thick-walled materials or thin steel sheets, however, the use of a drill rig is recommended. The SPV from ALFRA (Rittal Automation Systems) is a device that is not only compatible with a wide range of drilling machines, but is also so lightweight that it is an indispensable companion on any construction site.
Controlled drilling of thick and thin-walled materials
With solid workpieces, there are often applications that require precisely vertical drilling - e.g. when the craftsman then has to cut a thread. If openings are to be made in thin-walled panels or housings, such as in a switch cabinet, other points must be taken into account. For example, the user must take precautions to ensure that the machine does not sag through the material during the drilling process. Otherwise, damage to the electronics inside can occur, especially in an already equipped switch cabinet. For these and many other tasks, the SPV is the perfect solution for fast and safe drilling processes. The reason: The strong permanent magnet in the base of the device reliably fixes the drill stand to ferromagnetic materials.
Patented magnet technology
A decisive advantage of the magnet used considerably extends the range of possible applications: The design is based on patented TML technology (Thin Material Lifting) and, thanks to the ideal structure of the magnetic field, it adheres to metal as thin as 2 mm. Based on this technology, Alfra has also developed a magnetic product line for lifting and fixing.
Variable holders and the Euro collar on the drill stand allow a variety of combinations with different drill neck diameters. Customers notice one of the unique selling points in terms of user-friendliness as soon as they lift the SPV for the first time. At just under 7 kg, it is a real lightweight and therefore a mobile tool on construction sites, shipyards or in metalworking companies. The sturdy handle also contributes to ease of use. There is a clamp attachment with a standard dimension of 43 mm for the machine holder. This means that most cordless and mains-powered machines that have a retaining collar for additional handles can also be used in the SP-V.
Safety in every position
Safety aspects were emphasised during the development of the device. The drill stand is attached to the workpiece using a lever. A mechanical pawl prevents the magnetic base from being released unintentionally. Because a permanent magnet is installed in the SPV, there is also no risk of the drill stand and machine crashing in the event of a power failure. A lashing strap is included for additional safety when working on vertical components.
Conclusion: The SPV from Alfra is a versatile solution for users for whom stationary drilling is important, but who want to continue using their existing machines. The drill rig impresses with its practical ease of use and maximum holding force, even on thin-walled materials.
