Ready for the Future

31 May 2019

Koelnmesse is building for the future: spacious buildings with 10,000 m2 additional exhibition space, fascinating digital technology and many new possibilities for inspiring trade fair experiences. The new Koelnmesse 3.0 is going to be great  - everything within easy reach, maximum flexibility and energy-saving. The INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR will also benefit from these improvments.

Step by step, the new fair takes shape. The elegant parking garage has already been completed. Hall 1plus will follow at the end of 2020, offering space for exhibitions, special shows and events with up to 4000 participants and enabling completely new dimensions. Especially in combination with the Confex® - an event center for integrated combinations of trade fair, congress and event and with a capacity for additionally  5,500 visitors. With its new terminal, restaurants, shops, relax zones and presentation rooms, the two buildings form a unique ensemble that turns into  a lively place for enjoyment and inspiration. The terminal leads directly to the southern halls. These will be completely renovated to provide maximum comfort and space for exhibitors and visitors.

Digital, eco-friendly, sustainable The new digital control and communication system "Digital Signage" is already running in the northern halls. It offers a real-time orientation and information system, powerful networks for future options such as 5G or Smart Venue as well as great staging options in high-end quality. The traffic on the exhibition grounds will also be controlled digitally in future. This will not only enable trucks to reach their destinations more quickly but the overall traffic flow will be optimized. 3,250 additional parking spaces and logistics areas in the new multistory car park are contributing to smoother traffic flows. A new cogeneration power station, district heating and innovative ventilation save energy and protect the environment. Koelnmesse was already able to reduce its CO2 emissions by more than 3,000 tons in 2017. The new Confex® buildings are designed for sustainability right from the start. More space for the #HARDWAREFAIR2020 The INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR will also benefit greatly from the measures taken as part of Koelnmesse 3.0: The space on offer will be significantly expanded by 2020 and will enable an even clearer thematic structure to be created.
